The museum city of Gjirokaster, southern Albania, a UNESCO world heritage site with rich centuries-long traditions and cultural heritage, will host the National Folklore Festival, one of Albania’s most important cultural events, during the eight coming days, with the Festival returning after eight years with its hand in hand dancers atop the stone castle, specially decked out and revived like never before this evening with bright colors, folklore motives, music, songs and dances from all regions of Albania.
The week-long National Folklore Festival 2023, the cultural event that puts together the beautiful colors of the Albanian folklore, will take place on an outdoor stage atop Gjirokaster’s castle and it will be free for everyone.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by his spouse Linda Rama, tonight visited the Castle of Gjirokaster, transformed into the heart of the Festival, with a large number of visitors, folklore performers, artists, artisans and art lovers of all ages, who have come together to experience one of the most important and largest events celebrating Albanian traditional songs and dances, an extremely beautiful exhibition of the national intangible cultural heritage.
